AI APP BUILDER REVIEW

UI Bakery

Create operational apps with AI, database connections and a visual editor. UI Bakery combines prompt building with cloud or self-hosted delivery; its documented archive export is an application data model.

OUR TAKE

Consider UI Bakery for an operational interface where AI generation, database access and visual refinement help the team. Validate the app mode and migration artifacts explicitly; editable code and a ZIP file do not by themselves establish a standalone export.

01 / THE PRODUCT

What is UI Bakery?

UI Bakery connects a prompt-based app agent to an internal-tool environment with data sources, queries, visual editing and deployment controls. It is relevant when the useful outcome is a working operation on real business data: filter records, review an exception or submit an approved change. The first generated interface should be evaluated against that operation rather than treated as a finished product.

The current product exposes code editing for AI-mode apps, while its documented archive migration workflow describes an app data model for use in another UI Bakery workspace. We did not establish that this archive is a complete application that runs independently of the platform. Its source-control documentation also leaves data sources and environment variables outside Git. Plan continuity around the exact app mode, runtime and services you intend to use.

02 / PROJECT FIT

Projects worth trying

Suggested briefs to evaluate the workflow, based on documented capabilities.

A customer support workspace

Connect a test API, show a filtered queue and allow a narrowly defined status update. Review every generated action that changes a customer record.

A stock management dashboard

Combine a table, edit form and discrepancy view over real test data. Check user permissions and simultaneous edits before deploying it to the team.

03 / FROM IDEA TO LIVE

A practical building workflow

  1. Choose the app mode and delivery

Confirm whether the project uses the AI-mode or visual workflow and which cloud/self-hosted plan covers it.

  2. Provide the schema and operating task

Describe the fields, users and allowed actions instead of asking only for a dashboard design.

  3. Refine data, logic and permissions

Review queries and generated code, then adjust the interface and access controls to the actual process.

  4. Release with a recovery plan

Publish to the intended runtime, document datasource settings and validate the applicable archive or Git migration path.

04 / THE DECISION

When it fits, and what to check

Consider it when

  • The application is a dashboard, CRUD interface or internal operational workflow.
  • Someone can review data queries and own deployment and access controls.

Know the limits

  • The documented app archive is a data model, while current AI-mode code editing is a separate capability.
  • Git does not include instance data sources, environment variables or release history; those need their own recovery process.

Hosting, export and cost details

Each fact includes its scope and a link to the official documentation.

Product

Documented
AI + low-code internal apps

UI Bakery documents prompt-generated operational interfaces with database/API connections and visual refinement.

ScopeAn app-building workflow; generated permissions and behavior are not independently tested.

Hosting

Conditions apply
Cloud or self-hosted platform

Use UI Bakery cloud or an eligible self-hosted installation. Check the exact app mode and plan before relying on the delivery path.

ScopeSelf-hosting the platform is different from hosting an exported standalone application.

Code portability

Conditions apply
Platform archive and source control

The documented ZIP export is an application data model. Git stores app settings, pages and actions, while instance datasource and environment settings stay outside it.

ScopeDocumented migration workflow; independent AI-mode source export was not confirmed.

Cost to check

Conditions apply
Developers + AI + permissions

Compare developer seats, AI credits, workspace viewers, advanced role controls, cloud/self-hosted terms and external service costs.

ScopeAI-mode code editing and app export should be checked separately.

06 / A USEFUL FIRST TRIAL

Evaluate one complete task

Build a support queue with search, a detail view and a supervisor-only resolution action, using sample records from a test API.

  • Check the resolved record after a failed or repeated update request.
  • Confirm a standard agent cannot run the supervisor action.
  • Export the app and determine which UI Bakery instance and settings are required to restore it.
  • Check the exact AI-mode code/export conditions with current documentation before planning an independent host.

Questions to settle before launch

  1. What exactly is exported for the chosen app mode, and where can it run?
  2. Which user roles and deployment controls require a different plan?

This is a suggested evaluation task, not a test result. SiteKeen has not completed hands-on testing of UI Bakery. Our recommendation combines official documentation with editorial judgment. How we review →
